Lead one of the premier programs in sustainable biomaterials and wood science in the nation. Supervised over 15 faculty and 5 staff. Sat on the administrative team for the college. The department averaged over 150 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students during this time.

Bob is a professor in the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials. In his current role he works with 17 faculty in one of the leading departments in sustainable biomaterial science in North America. He is also the Director of the Center for Forest Products Business (a collaborative effort among the forest products industry, state and federal agencies, and the university). Bob holds a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech (1994) in Forest Products Marketing, a MBA from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh (1989), and a B.S. in Wood and Fiber Utilization from Michigan Tech (1977). Bob taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of wood science, business management, and forest products marketing. As an extension specialist for 14 years his work focused on assisting companies with business and marketing issues to help increase their competitiveness. He taught numerous continuing education courses to the industry in these areas. His research efforts focus upon industrial marketing and new opportunities for wood in international markets. Prior to completing his Ph.D., he worked for a major U.S. manufacturer of wood products for 14 years as quality control director, production manager, and sales representative in the Midwest. Bob has served by appointment of the US Secretary of Agriculture on the Forest Research Advisory Council (FRAC) of the USDA. This council recommends the forestry research agenda for the USDA. Bob has served as a past director and president for SWST and has served on the boards of the Virginia Forestry Association, the Virginia Forest Products Association. He has authored/coauthored 3 books, over 100 scientific publications in this field, and has participated in over $6 million dollars in research funding. He has guided 17 graduate students to successful completion of their research projects.

Administer the outreach, extension and engagement programs for the college. These include our natural resource cooperative extension program, international programs, economic development programs, study abroad efforts and engagement efforts.

Pursued and completed my PhD in Forest Products Marketing. The dissertation dealt with how highway officials made choices on selecting construction materials for building bridges. I used the decision model, the Analytical Hierarchy Process, to model the decision.

Adminster the efforts of the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials. This department is a leader in biomaterial science, packaging science, wood residential construction, forest product business and manufacturing in the wood products sector. It has one of the leading wood products extension programs in North America and has one of the largest undergraduate enrollments in this area.

Sold lumber products to homecenters, government agencies, general, highway contractors and marine contractors in MN, WI, IL, IA, SD, ND and MI. Managed a wholesale contractor distribution yard near Minneapolis for 2 years.

Supervised in a wood treating facility, pine sawmill, post operation and speciality manufacturing company
