After serving an apprenticeship as a Structural Plater on a Boiler-Shop Floor in 1978 I left my first company and spent the next 29 years specialising in Power Generation & Main Steam Propulsion Boiler Construction & Repair.Initially applying my trade as a Plater on various sites throughout the UK on Coal, Gas, Nuclear and Oil Fired Power Generating Boilers as well as a number of Oil Refineries in 1987 I had an opportunity to join a new venture specialising in Marine Boiler Retrofit / Repairs on a world-wide basis. During 1990, my final year with this company I found myself in the fortunate position of being sub-contracted to a larger and established company with an identical work profile with a Global Presence & was offered a position as a Project Engineer stationed in Singapore.I spent the next 17 years with this company holding the positions of Project Engineer, Repair Manager, Technical Manager, Assistant Technical Director, Technical Director and Managing Director based in Singapore, twice in Dubai and the UK. During this period I worked in more than 40 countries controlling projects sometimes completing up to 75 international business trips per year. With my children getting older I made a decision in 2007 to leave after 17 years to find a new challenge and be locally based in the UK. This came in the form of working in the Steel Industry as a Fabrication Manager running a number of Fabrication Workshops. In 2010 I was made Technical Sales Manager a position which I held until 2012 where I took an opportunity to transfer to another site within the business to take my present position as Project Engineer in a department with a mandate to rebuild a By-Products Plant of a large Steelworks including a C.O.G. Holder, Void Coolers, Ammonia and Benzol Washers and various Gas lines on a live plant.I consider myself to be fortunate to have had a varied career with everyday being a school day at the University of Life.

As Assistant Technical Director I was responsible for the controlling of all fabrication and production within the workshop at Barry. Contracts completed ranged from the fabrication and installation of structural steel to the complete manufacturing of 150 ton an hour boilers for both the industrial and marine markets. During my period in this position I was responsible for the building of an extension to the existing workshop at Barry giving a further 30% covered working area and had a mandate to set up a tube manipulation facility and restructure the local and international skilled labour force. With the initial purchase of two CNC Bending Machines and the retraining of key personnel the new workshop was fully operational by mid 1999. With the additional space created, the purchase of CNC machinery and the introduction of multi skilled practices we were able to treble the annual turnover of the facility in the first year of operation and reduce the amount of subcontracted fabrication by 75%. With the permanent labour force being more stable I introduced an apprentice scheme in 1999. In addition to the above I was responsible for setting up agreements with labour agencies in Poland, Portugal, and Romania and interviewed more than 500 skilled personnel for local and overseas contracts controlled from the U.K. office. At peak periods when the demand on skilled personnel was high and with the Polish and Portuguese labour complying with EU regulations I introduced these nationalities into the U.K. workshops where a number of them now hold foreman and managerial positions. My duties whilst in this position included workshop control, overseas projects, estimating and financial control, overseeing of quality assurance and the general marketing and promotion of the full group of companies.

When I left Dubai in 1998 the company was operating with a multi national workforce of 60 technicians controlled by British supervision. My duties whilst in this position included the safe day-to-day running of the workshop, overseas projects, estimating, and financial control over all projects, overseeing of quality assurance and the general marketing and promotion of the full group of companies.
