About Robert Sutton

Now retired having been employed by Element Materials Technology in their technical laboratory based in Warwick, I'm still up for providing technical support particularly in the field of ingress protection to industry. I have many years’ experience in business and design technology, both working for myself and at senior level in industry. I hold a degree in industrial design technology and maintain a strong interest in continuous professional development.Outside of paid work I am active in local community projects in my home town of Birmingham. I care passionately about the quality of life in Harborne where we live and was responsible for creating the Moor Pool Heritage Trust. As well as protecting valuable local heritage we have improved the lives of local residents through supporting community activity. Additionally, I am currently involved in a project to bring back to life the listed Royalty Cinema, a 1930s art deco treasure, which with colleagues I hope to preserve for the enjoyment of local people and to help support and rejuvenate our High Street

Working with architects the Trust has developed detailed proposals to convert the building into a multi-use facility with 2 cinemas, conference/theatre auditorium, cafe, restaurant and community space supported by and extensive community survey. • Moor Pool Heritage Trust
Chair Of The Board Of Directors
    Moor Pool Heritage Trust 2011 - 2016
    Birmingham, England, United Kingdom
I initiated the formation of the Trust a registered charity to carry out an extensive viability study, then negotiate and secure the purchase of the community assets of the Moor Pool Conservation area. This included 3 commercial premises, 2 residential flats, the Moor Pool Hall and skittle alley, the Moor Pool, 2 tennis clubs and a bowling green. This required a major fundraising campaign involving the public and numerous grant organisations. Recognising the importance of revenue and the provision of additional community space I personally committed to the acquisition of a builders yard and garage complex on the eve of their public auction. In addition, working in partnership with a developer, new and refurbished garage sites and the local allotments were also transferred to the Trust. The mixture of commercial income has provided the backbone for a Trust to continue to operate with a financial surplus even during the 2020 pandemic. In 2019 the Trust under the stewardship of the current Board received a Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

As part of the discussions with the local planning authority I put forward proposals for space to be developed as a community park funded by s106 monies and a government grant. Whilst Chair, the Association instigated a number of regular community events including the Moor Pool Festival.
