Serendipity . I saw thousands of patients during my years of clinical practice in Townsville and engaged in the community with numerous public health presentations and a regular spot on the local ABC radio for several years.

It was an honour to work alongside one of the most brilliant women I have ever met, my wife, Trish Thomas. This program (mainly Trish’s creation) addresses a deficit in national health curriculum in schools. It provides an alphabet for health in a colourful, child friendly package.My role with this dynamic program was to educate and motivate the teachers about their own health needs in relation to the 7 natural Physicians. We would then launch the 7NPs with a low tech, old fashioned styled puppet, song and dance routine that captured the hearts of the children. The program made healthy living and learning about health a joy!

Weight loss was easy to achieve in my clinic with what was at that time a new approach- low carbohydrate, moderate-high protein. What I was concerned about was the long term success of patients, especially those with a history of yoyo dieting. Trish and I worked together to develop a program that helped patients to identify and understand the physical, mental and emotional threats to long term success of being comfortable in your jeans.

I continued to work as a consultant for a number of companies during our first four years in Townsville. These included Bullivant’s Natural Health Products, Capillano Honey, CSIRO and Lipa Pharmaceuticals.

Doors opened wide for us in the far north and I was privileged to work alongside my colleague Robynn Morro in helping her to further develop areas in the college curriculum and to play my part in training a new generation of practitioners.

This was an exciting era in the natural health industry with the implementation of the Therapeutic Goods Act and its’ new regulations governing standards for manufacturing and therapeutic claims. My time with Bullivant’s gave me a deeper and broader understanding of the natural health industry, with its' strengths and flaws, from raw materials to manufacturing to marketing.My role with Bullivant’s over these years of massively rapid company growth was extensive and diverse- from product manager to setting up and managing a naturopathic hot-line, developing a national product training program, product development, media liaison and presentation and a national public seminar program.
