Having finished my AHRC-funded Ph.D (entitled ‘“Punk Goes Pop”: The post-semiotic theory of Gestural Transformation as signifier of style, meaning and authenticity’) and worked as a Teaching Associate at the University of Nottingham for several years, I moved into secondary education as the Head of Music at Haberdashers’ Adams Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire. My teaching focuses on performance, composition and music production as well as specialisms in jazz, film music and hardcore punk. My research interests include applications of semiotics in music performance analysis, music education and the use of the piano in house music. I utilise my LRSM (piano performance) and grade 8 in keyboard, electric guitar, bass and drums to teach a healthy portfolio of private students and examine with RSL Awards (Rockschool, RSL classical and Music Production).
