I represent regional sports authorities, college and university athletic teams and officials, companies interested in sports marketing and civic and government entities facing team relocation or facility issues. I also assist players, coaches and executives with contract negotiations and separation agreements. A special focus for me is sports compliance. In the wake of wide-ranging sports scandals like those that occurred at Penn State and Rutgers, universities are now facing the same compliance scrutiny as industries like the financial sector. I work with university general counsel and athletic officials to create comprehensive, forward-looking compliance programs that proactively prepare for high-risk scenarios. I also help university officials navigate the difficult political terrain of all-powerful coaches and athletic programs.

I'm one of a handful of attorneys nationwide that serve as NFL-approved hearing officers for the league’s Drug and Player Personal Conduct Policy. I hears arguments from players, agents, attorneys, and NFL representatives, weighs evidence from expert witnesses, and issues written decisions.

I spent 16 years with the Rams, serving as the team's executive vice president and general counsel. In this position, I was one of the highest-ranking African-American club executives in the National Football League. I led the Rams' operations and business departments during two Super Bowl appearances, managed the team's $200 million budget and served as lead negotiator in the renaming of the Rams' stadium to the Edward Jones Dome.

In my role with the Eagles, I transitioned the organization to a new salary cap and negotiated all player contracts. I also revamped the team’s outside counsel engagements and lowered outside legal spending by 25 percent. I authored the relocation application that eventually moved the St. Louis Football Cardinals to Arizona. I also argued and won an 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals case involving satellite signal piracy that established new copyright law regarding NFL television signals.
