Robert Ward counsels start-up companies, venture capital firms, and global technology leaders on intellectual property (IP) and technology related matters. He focuses on medical device and digital health technology fields, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, as well as various other mechanical, electrical, and software based technologies, advising clients on strategic patent counseling, technology transactions, and IP disputes.Leveraging his engineering background, Robert works closely with clients to identify and protect core aspects of their technology. He counsels clients on global patent portfolio procurement and management with an emphasis in developing robust portfolios and IP strategies for emerging companies. Serving as outside IP counsel, he routinely prepares freedom-to-operate, invalidity, and patentability opinions. Robert also assists with all IP related aspects of mergers and acquisitions and has guided numerous medical device and health care start-up companies through exits.In addition to intellectual property procurement and development, Robert prepares and negotiates agreements involving intellectual property and related corporate transactions including licensing, acquisition, development, services, consulting, confidentiality, and other agreements. He also has experience in intellectual property litigation before courts and the USPTO.

Serve on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Intellectual Property Law Association (OCIPLA).
