I am working towards a world where we live in a regenerative society, where everything we make, use, eat and discard has a natural beginning and end. “Earth to Dirt” is my philosophy.When I was a young lad, growing up in the UK, I was inspired to dig for antique glass bottles outside our village. At the time I wondered why it was only the glass I was finding in our old village dump, until I realized, the glass bottles were the only non-biodegradable material that remained. Almost everything else in our village dump had disintegrated or decomposed. Even as a young lad, this awareness left a profound impact on my sense of the natural environment, that stayed with me for the rest of my life and the work I would end up doing.This understanding inspired me to join my future business partner Louise Schwarz, who, as a result of her own epiphany about waste in 1989, had started to collect paper from offices for recycling. Recycling Alternative was born and the rest is our journey on the path to zero waste and circularity.WASTE RECOVERY INNOVATION TECHNOLOGIES:♻ RECYCLED BIODIESEL DISTRIBUTION (2003-2014) Developed process for converting waste vegetable oil to recycled biodiesel (2004); Created and built BC’s first self-serve biodiesel cardlock station for Vancouver Biodiesel Co-op (2006).🚛 LOGISTICS INNOVATION (2008-2010) Custom designed and manufactured our Zero Waste truck, North America’s first 3-compartment, source-separated, collection truck designed to collect 3 streams including organics in a single pass. 🍛 HOSPITALITY & FOOD COURTS (2014-present) Developed and implemented an integrated food court/hospitality separation and collection model, combining hosted sort stations with on-site composting technology, resulting in 90%+ diversion rates from multi-tenanted public food courts.🌎 EARTH2DIRT (2019-present) Developing new technologies delivering biopolymer materials to replace fossil fuel based plastics for Single Use and Short Term Use products. Utilizing on-site composting and Regenerative Waste Lab's research to pioneer accelerated bio-degradation, transforming our fossil fuel based supply chain into a regenerative economy.
