Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant

Directly involved with the BFN Probation Recovery effort for the Engineering Training Program. Was a team member in the Root Cause analysis, and following my transfer to Training, was directly responsible for analysis of plant issues for possible training opportunities, design, development, and implementation of continuing training material, and evaluation of current training provided.Co-instructed the BFN BWR Systems training course, and redeveloped and presented the Print Reading orientation course. Also developed and presented a Work-Group Specific Electrical Print Reading course for non-electrical engineers. All of these classes received very positive feedback.I do not believe a technical course needs to be boring. I also strongly believe it's important to present the WHYs something works the way it does, rather than simply rattle off technical information about the subject to be absorbed in the trainee's short - term memory for the exam at the end of the course.

Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant

Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Systems Engineer B.Browns Ferry is a three unit Boiling Water Reactor (BWR), manufactured by General Electric Co.Responsibilities include the Main Turbine Electrohydraulic Controls (EHC) system and the plant annunciators.

Developed design details specific to instrumentation, controls, and electrical power for a variety of Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DoE) contracts.Provided bid input for engineering time estimates, test requirements, and special equipment requirements for proposals.Responsibilities included development of engineering calculations, drawings, electrical load analysis, selection of hardware based on customer's specific requirements, and particpation in construction and testing activities.

Colwich, Kansas

Developed instrumentation and controls details for 50 MMGPY and 100MMGPY ethanol plants.Primary contact for plant hardware issues related to the instrumentation and controls (including Digital Control System) during plant construction.Worked in conjunction with the Quality Department to establish written standards to improve engineering processes.

Sandusky, Ohio

Boat rigger for custom-made aluminum catamaran boats.

Transferred to the Plant Engineering Department as a Staff Nuclear Engineer just prior to Refueling Outage #13. Primary responsibilities were in the Electrical and Controls System Engineering areas of the plant - Safety Features Actuation System (SFAS) and the Vibration and Loose Parts Monitoring (V&LPM) System. Secondary responsibilities included backup System Engineer for the plant Emergency Diesel-Generator (EDG) sets.Developed the SFAS System Health Readiness Review (SHRR) during the extended (two year) shutdown of Davis-Besse under the NRC 0350 process. Identified numerous plant issues, including two (2) Licensee Event Reports (LERs). Developed corrective action plans, and updated Periodic Maintenance (PM) tasks to improve plant material conditions. Participated in and provided technical input for a total of three Root Cause investigations.

Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station

Transferred from the Perry Nuclear Power Plant to Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in August, 2000 as a Staff Nuclear Training Instructor, Davis-Besse Nuclear Training. Primarily responsible for maintenance and improvement of the INPO accredited Engineering Training program.Primary responsibilities included Orientation Training, Continuing Training, and Specialized Training for approximately 100 engineers and contract engineers atthe station.Secondary responsibilities included Contractor In-Processing Training (GET / RCT), and acted as Subject Matter Expert for electrical and instrumentation topics related to Operator and Electrical Maintenance training.

Nuclear Training Instructor for the Engineering Support Training (EST) program. Responsible for developing and implementing training for this INPO accredited training program, including the Engineering Fundamentals training curriculum.Designated Subject Matter Expert (SME) for training related to the plant's Main Generator, Generator Excitation, and Standby Diesel-Generator systems for both licensed and non-licensed operators.Participated in plant activities as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Main Generator, Generator Excitation System, Standby Diesel-Generators, and station transformers. Provided additional technical input for several Root Cause investigations, and two Licensee Event Reports (LERs).

Perry Nuclear Power Plant

Primary engineer for a variety of plant electrical systems, including the Main Generator, Generator Excitation, Cathodic Protection, Reactor Protection System (RPS) motor-generator set, Reactor Recirculation Pumps power supply, and the Division III (High Pressure Core Spray, HPCS) Standby Diesel-Generator. Project Manager for the Main Generator rotor replacement in Refuel Outage #1 (RF01).Designated Lead Engineer of the Electrical Power Group from 1994 to 1997. Responsible for seven (7) other engineers. Acted as Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Manager during periods when the Manager was absent, and on backshift assignments.

Perry Nuclear Power Plant

Computer hardware support engineer for the installation, testing, and (later) operation of the plant Emergency Response Information System (ERIS). The system was based on a pair of VAX 11/780 mainframe computers, designed for full failover.Self-taught at basic computer programming functions, using FORTRAN 77.Provided computer support for plant startup testing and initial operation.

Perry Nuclear Power Plant

Responsible for development of instrument file folders, including instrument technical information and calibration information. Prepared instrument calibration and instrument loop calibration calculation packages.Assigned by supervisor as Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Field Shop Supervisor during plant construction, in charge of up to twenty-one (21) contract and in-house I&C technicians.Completed and maintained ANSI Level II Inspector Certification in the I&C discipline.
