Led marketing effort for multi-division team assessing opportunities in product and supply chain security. Identified unmet needs for inventory tracking, anti-diversion, anti-theft, homeland security, brand protection and rebate fraud. Selected target markets: Safe Commerce, Recorded Media, Imaging Supplies, Automotive Parts and Apparel. Interviewed trade groups and customers. Cataloged technologies e.g., RFID, taggants, holograms. Responsible for start-up and management of Electro-Graphic Displays Division. Authored business plan for new-to-the-world ‘electronic paper’ technology that adds motion to print. Launched Electro-Graphic Displays Division to implement this plan to develop, manufacture and sell flat, flexible, disposable, electrochromic displays. Evangelized the opportunity, its minimal capital needs and its fit with Avery’s strategy and manufacturing competencies. Created detailed P&L model with 5-year forecast of sales and expenses including headcount by function, scrap rates, overheads. In 3½ years, bootstrapped the effort from a personal vision to a division of 14 people by gaining investment at corporate, division and plant levels. CEO showcased division to Wall Street on 2 occasions.

Responsible for innovation and commercialization of highly engineered, multi layer co-extruded polymer films. Work included concept screening, customer needs assessment, competitive analysis product development, process scale-up, manufacturing capacity planning, pricing and sales forecast.• Determined channel and brand strategies for line of patented, coextruded 'cling' films for POP and advertising graphics. Planned North American roll out to 90 sales and tech support personnel and conducted ‘teaser’ campaign to build awareness and assemble customer database.• Led Avery's first penetration of market for functional films used in manufacturing surface mount technology electronics. Built relationship with KEMET, $680 million capacitor manufacturer.

Recruited by Corporate VP to perform strategic, financial and operations planning for growth initiatives. Advised General Managers in US, Hong Kong, Canada and UK how to match investments in plant and equipment with market demand and division strategy. Return on Total Capital increased 14.4% to 19%.
