Australia's oldest ski club, originally formed by Charles Kerry as NSW Alpine Club in 1898, then later becoming Kosciusko Alpine Club (KAC) in 1909, KAC has played a significant role in connecting alpine experiences to Australians.As a consequence of its long history, KAC has had the good fortune to be involved in many pioneering snow sport activities such as the early exploration of the Kosiusko Main Range, the introduction of ski proficiency tests, the Australian Ski Championship, the KAC Year Book, the first ski publication in Australia, Frozen Lessons (a ski instruction handbook), air transport to the snow, over-snow transport in Perisher area and its members Sverre Kaaten & Ken Murray began the development of the Perisher and Smiggins resorts. Today, with c. 2000 members, an office in Sydney, lodges in Charlottes Pass, Perisher & Thredbo, and a Back Country Hut (White River Hut), KAC is a leading Australian institution rich in Alpine history & traditions.
