The Harvard Leadership Project's mission is to develop the next generation of national leaders, active citizens, and global problem solvers.We discovered from interviewing presidential appointees, elected officials, and business leaders that leaders don't develop from reading books or sitting in a classroom.Becoming a leader is a process of building a Team of Rivals and making a vision a reality. This involves learning from crucible experiences where you grow through adversity.We also discovered that behind every Great Leader is a Masterful Coach who can inspire, empower, and enable people.We incorporated our research into coaching and mentoring a group of 100 new leaders in their first 100 days of a new job.

My partner, marketing guru, Jay Abraham, and I work with Venture-funded, high-tech, startups on leadership, business models, and IPOs. Our goal is to provide start-up companies with a growth laboratory and business accelerator that helps them meet and exceed the expectations of their investors. I was tasked by a Fortune 500 CEO and client to develop a 10x (better) leadership development program specifically geared to build the next generation of great business leaders, active citizens, and global problem solvers. Instead of just grabbing the most conventional default strategies and prototypes that most leadership development is based on, I decided to conduct original research. I interviewed over 300 great leaders, young and old, on establishing a National Leadership Center and developing a 10x leadership program. Some of the people I interviewed included Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Ambassador John Mitchel, General David Petraeus, Governor Christie Whitman, Heather Grady of the Rockefeller Foundation, Opera Maestro Placido Domingo, CEOs of the Fortune 500, Venture Capitalists, and many social entrepreneurs.I was looking for “secrets” buried in people’s experiences about how they developed into leaders or helped others to do the same. I operated from the premise that there were secrets to be discovered. I will also be presenting the findings in a book entitled: Being a Leader - A Date With Destiny.
