Department of Defense policy requires that government motor vehicle resources are organized and managed to ensure optimum responsiveness, efficiency, and economy in support of the mission. VCP Manager ensures day-to-day management of those motor vehicles permanently assigned to units and agencies.Acting as a liaison between their unit and the base transportation activity for all unit governmentmotor vehicle matters. Controlling unit vehicles and obtaining transportation services required to support unit mission requirements. Defending vehicle requirements, justifying requests for additional vehicle requirements; complying with the base vehicle rotation and priority recall plans.Providing justification data to support unit minimum essential vehicle levels (MEL). MELs indicate the number of vehicles, by type, that can be in the vehicle maintenance shop at one time and not seriously affect the user’s mission. Competence in the field of diesel and automotive mechanics; knowledge of skills with gasoline and diesel automotive engines, small gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, basic welding and hydro-static transmissions.Proven ability to follow manufacturers’ guidelines and procedures work safely. Repair fleet and resort motorized equipment as assigned in order to provide optimal equipment availability, safety, useful life and running time. Record all mechanical work performed on maintenance work orders, record inventory and parts used and keep other records as necessary in order to assure accurate and complete maintenance histories. Follow all safety procedures and practices in order to protect and assure personal safety and the safety of co-workers, equipment operators, the equipment and facilities.Clean and organize the shop bays, tools, parts areas and general shop facilities in order to provide safe working conditions and efficient shop operations. Coordinate automotive repairs and maintenance services to obtain maximum utilization of automotive equipment and prevent operational delays in other departments. Determine schedules, sequences and assignments for work activities based on work priority, availability of tools or equipment, and skill of personnel. Communicate complex troubleshooting and automotive concepts to technicians both verbally and written in an easy to understand manner while guiding maintenance repairs and completing quality assurance inspections on contract and service repairs.Assess the condition of all of the vehicle's essential mechanical systems and components to determine corrective actions. Explain and interpret laws and regulations to communicate with technicians and customers to ensure the fleet's compliance with state/ federal and international laws and regulations.

Supervised top-side and bottom-side services by: Lubricating suspension and driveline fittings; draining the oil from the vehicle; replacing the oil filter; checking the rear differential, transfer case, manual transmission and front differential/transaxle; checking and filling fluids under the hood; pulling out and replacing air filters, batteries and windshield wipers and checking tire pressure. Transmission fluid exchange; coolant exchange; fuel system cleaning; serpentine belt replacement; gearbox fluid exchange; tire rotation and A/C recharge. Ensured customers are taken care of in a timely and professional manner while maintaining a positive attitude. Greeting customers; answering questions; presenting maintenance recommendations and time estimates; closing the sale Maintain the top-side service area; keeping the customer waiting area, restrooms, counters and desk areas neat, clean and well-organized to enhance the customer experience.
