I'm the lead Ruby on Rails engineer on BugSnag, a SaaS product for application stability and performance monitoring. My role spans APIs, mailers, billing, background jobs and comprehensive testing, and I work with Mongo, gRPC, and ElasticSearch, Docker, Redis, and Rabbit, as well as external tooling like SendGrid, Stripe, and Datadog. I write engineering designs, plan work, and mentor other team members.I program in Ruby or Python as my go-to languages, but others as required (JavaScript, Go, C). I am at home developing algorithms and database code (Mongo, PostgreSQL) and developing front-end interfaces (Qt, Flask). I built and operate a Flask webapp called upload.farm (https://upload.farm).Prior to software engineering I was a quantum technology researcher developing hardware for and performing optoelectronic testing of superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs) for quantum information and quantum key distribution applications. In this I did full-stack software development, process design, data analysis and statistics.
