Seconded to Port Skills and Safety (PSS) to evaluate how Safety in Ports (SiPs) guidance documents are being used within the UK port sector.This required me to create, develop and implement a tool for analysing how ports are using the guidance documents. The review process consisted of 8 visits to organisations within the port sector across the UK. The 4 stage tool compromised of different evaluation techniques which combined has given PSS a true reflection of how SiPs are being used within the sector. The review has established a UK benchmark for compliance, identified improvement opportunities and highlighted best practice to be shared with the industry. The tool is the starting point of a long term plan to assess the impact of SiPs within the UK port sector and I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to play a part in this process.
