Profile bio

About Roberto Jiménez Sánchez, Phd

Aeronautical Engineer with 5+ years of experience in: (i) aerodynamics design & analysis and (ii) fluid dynamics systems; capable of carrying out complex research projects. ➤Experience:I started performing CFD simulations for the anti-icing and the fuel systems of airplanes. Those simulations included both the study of detailed aerodynamics phenomena as well as simulations of performances of the whole system. To complement that knowledge, I completed a PhD in experimental aerodynamics. The goal was to characterize the measurement errors of the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique, for meaningful comparisons to CFD. Additionally, I participated in two international collaborations, working on wind tunnel tests of flows of industrial interest.➤Skills:• Strategical planning and time management capabilities applied to deliver to target specification the 5 projects in CFD and wind tunnel tests I have participated on (the projects were from 2 months to 4 years long).• Capacity to work autonomously, achieving a PhD, and in a team, collaborating with international groups of 2-6 people to complete 7 aerodynamic test campaigns (2 of them in wind tunnels).• Communication skills improved by teaching to undergraduate students 60+ hours (work congratulated twice by the Quality Office of the University) and by delivering 3 oral symposium presentations.• Highly adaptable and flexible engineer, as demonstrated by successfully integrating different working environments (enterprises, research centers or universities) in 4 different countries.I am looking now for opportunities in engineering where I can apply my skill set to solve problems. If you want to learn more about how can I help you, feel free to:• Write me at rob.jim.san@gmail.com• Call me to (+34) 66 55 66 578• Send a connection request on LinkedIn.➤Keywords:Aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, wind tunnel tests, CFD Simulations, Matlab, PIV measurements, data analysis, turbulence, Fluent, Star-CCM+, Catia.

Listed skills include Aircraft, Aerospace, Avionics, Flight Test, and 15 others.

System Engineering Consultant

Current

Toulouse Area, France

• Carries out different tasks following the development of systems as part of the Data Loading Integration team: tests specification, tests execution and clients support.• Collaborates in 1 innovative project which analyses the possibility to perform maintenance operations remotely: study of the feasibility of the operations and assessment of the value for the airlines.

Apr 2018 - Present

Phd Researcher In Experimental Aerodynamics

Leganés Area, Spain

During this period, I integrated ITEA research group to complete a PhD in the Particle Image Velocimetry technique (PIV). This technique allows measuring the velocity of a flow at multiple points instantaneously. This information can be used for example to extract aerodynamic or acoustic performances, or to validate CFD models.Tasks and accomplishments:• Effective writing skills as demonstrated by the award of above 60.000€ in grant money and by the publication of 1 research journal paper and 5 symposium papers.• Critical thinking capabilities employed for the successful development of a methodology that allows reducing PIV measurement errors by up to 70%.• Problem solving skills and knowledge in Matlab as evidenced by the development of 3 numerical tools for PIV errors analysis and simulation of PIV tests.• Project management skills improved by the requirements specification, design, development (including generation of CAD models for 3D printing) and data analysis of 4 aerodynamic test campaigns.

Dec 2012 - Oct 2017

Aerodynamics Engineer

Caserta Area, Italy

This collaboration, part of my PhD, was devised to gain insight into PIV measurements at an industry level and to participate in a wind tunnel test campaign. The objective was to complete a study on the effect on the aerodynamic performance of a blunt helicopter fuselage by flow control devices.Tasks and accomplishments:• Team working and time management skills improved by collaborating with a group of 3 people to conduct wind tunnel measurement campaign (PIV and pressure taps).• Design of a set of passive flow control devices that achieved a reduction of a 40% of a penalizing flow phenomenon appeared for the helicopter fuselage (which is characteristic of blunt bodies).• Communication skills applied to publish a symposium paper and deliver a symposium presentation.

Jun 2015 - Sep 2015

Aerodynamics Engineer

Dlr

Göttingen Area, Germany

For this collaboration, part of the PhD, I integrated the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology, specifically the Experimental Methods department to complete a wind tunnel test campaign in the characterization of a turbulent boundary layer.Tasks and accomplishments:• Team working skills improved by collaborating with a group of 5 people to conduct wind tunnel test campaign (with PIV technique) within schedule.• Time management and creative problem solving skills applied to develop two new methodologies in Matlab which improved the coherent aerodynamic data yield of PIV images low quality region from a 33% to a 100%.

Sep 2014 - Dec 2014

Systems Engineer

Madrid Y Alrededores, España

I integrated the aircraft fuel system group for a temporary replacement of an employee. The role involved completing different tasks across the entire system lifecycle: • Conducted and analysed 1D CFD Simulations of Eurofighter fuel system performances with Flowmaster which results were reported in a technical document delivered to all 4 consortium partners.• Collaborated to propose guidelines for improvement of HAL-Tejas fuel system. • Completed different tasks for Eurofighter fuel system: analysis of flight tests, diagnosis and reparation of failure cases, certification for flight and delivery to client.

Mar 2012 - Sep 2012

Aerodynamics Engineer

Toulouse Y Alrededores, Francia

I worked as a full time intern for the Aerodynamics and Acoustics group to complete the final degree project. Project title: “Anti-ice system: Modelling of impinging jets”.Tasks and accomplishments: • Optimized the model to study the anti-ice system of airplane wings with CFD simulations (heat transfer error reduced from a 100% to a 10%) by comparing the results from different CFD models against experimental data.• Started 3 guidelines for optimization of the system by performing and analysing CFD simulations (with StarCCM+).
