I score the Redesigned SAT and Texas STAAR exams using pre-designed rubrics, calibration for inter-rater reliability, and Scoring Leader feedback to improve scoring. This summer I participated in the scoring/reading of AP Individual Research Responses.

I administered exams, both classroom and high-stakes (tests for certifications or licensures through PearsonVUE- e.g. the Missouri Educators Gateway Assessment), while maintaining a secure, distraction-free testing environment. I also managed high-stress environments for testers while maintaining security of testers, test materials, and testing environment. My responsibilities included the daily upkeep and improvement of the Testing Center and collaborating with various staff, faculty, outside institutions, and students. I've written two Testing Center Procedures Guides that document the procedures for Testing Center, information about campus resources,and reportable data about Testing Center usage by faculty and students. I've also created several databases of information needed to answer student and community members' questions about the services we offer. By applying for a technology grant, I obtained new digital cameras and monitoring equipment for the Testing Center during first two months of employment.

At Lindenwood I taught courses for the English Department ( including Strategies for University Writing, Argumentation and Research, and World Literature 1). Along with lecturing, assessing student learning, community building, and assignment development, I spent many hours in conferencing one-on-one with students to improve their writing and analyzing skills. Bringing pop culture into the classroom made the subjects I taught more relatable to students.

At STLCC I taught courses for the English Department (including Developmental Writing, College Composition 1, College Composition 2, Introduction to Fiction, and ESL). Creating a student-centered classroom became a passion of mine during my years here. From that focus came several classroom techniques that I used throughout my teaching career: flipped classrooms, collaborative learning, problem-based learning, interactions between my class sections, etc. My favorite subject to teach quickly became the Researched Argument, and I worked hard to develop many Mock Trial cases for my students to present to the class (insert Law & Order sound effect here).

After an intensive 150 hour Teacher Training Program (studying methods and research of teaching reading, integrating feedback, cold reading lesson plan scripts for supervisors and peers), I taught Reading to students preschool-aged to retirement-aged throughout the St. Louis and Jefferson City areas. I worked with students on phonics, spelling, context clues, study skills, speed reading, outlining, sight words, etc. At the end of the experience, I'd clocked 210 hours of teaching Reading skills. My youngest students reignited my passion for seeing others succeed. They made me excited to help them learn new things- especially during our progression from recognizing sight words to fluency in reading a book with a little help from their parents. My older students were excited to see their reading speed increase and were interested in learning when they could use speed reading and when they should adopt other strategies.

At SCC I participated in Learning Circles for Composition 1 with other adjuncts under the direction of a full-time Faculty Mentor. We shared assignments, discussed theory and our classroom practices, and learned from one another. This sense of community was also present between the Humanities Adjuncts and Student Services.Aside from teaching classes for the Humanities Department (English), I also helped score English Placement Essays and developed a project that helped my students learn, through research and experience, if they were studying for a degree they would use in their post-academic lives.

As part of the Attaching/Gaveyor team and Embossing team I embossed (ran the machine that punched names and numbers into plastic cards), inspected (looked for printing errors, embossing errors, and overall quality of product), counted (used the counting machine to ensure that all cards were accounted for and placed in the correct order), and packed cards (casino cards, membership cards, gift cards, and promotional cards), with emphasis on quality control. I learned and implemented basic troubleshooting techniques while working on embossing machines, and made sure the card numbers and mailer numbers matched at the Attaching/Gaveyor system.

As a freelance tutor I spent hundreds of hours with students needing help with English as a Second Language (ESL), Writing, Psychology, Film, and Literature courses. I assisted ESL students with test preparation, interview preparation (for both job and college admissions), and American cultural literacy (overcoming culture shock and adapting to life in the US).

AT ELS I filled in for absent teachers, assisted in the advising and placement of incoming students, proctored exams, and lead class activities for a variety of English Language Learners in the intensive English as a Second Language program. I developed lessons to assist students with the acquisition and use of adjectives, adverbs, and academic vocabulary.
