My career has caused me to develop a particular set of skills. Skills that lie at the intersection of three interrelated pathways:First, as a Youth Development Professional, I have extensive experience instructing individuals of all ages, focusing primarily upon PC skills, Internet safety and best practices, and STEM.Next, as a result of my YDP focus, I have frequently been tasked with PC desktop support at multiple nonprofit organizations. I currently service all sites in a four-county-wide NPO, providing on-site PC and network maintenance and support to its administrative staff, and maintaining PCs in use by the youth who attend our afterschool programs. This latter element can be likened to working in a plague ward: virtually all of my expertise at malware removal comes from dealing with arcane issues caused by a 6-year-old clicking on a flashing ad. (Thanks, Google!)From time to time, I've ventured out into the private sector to augment my technical expertise with new skills. I have worked at multiple levels in the IT business world, from lowly data entry jobs, to writing and maintaining script libraries, to video surveillance and security, to home theater installation.Finally, I spent just shy of a decade as a self-styled online entertainment journalist through a now-defunct personal website. I interviewed key staff from classic video games and provided industry professionals and journalists with information, contacts, and resources for their own projects. I have contributed to both online and print magazines, a classic video game compilation, and a paperback anthology over the years, but never quite managed to turn it into a paying career. Still, the experience was invaluable, and I'm grateful to everyone I met along the way.Except that one guy. You know who you are.
