As 2018/19 technical manager, I worked alongside our electronics technical manager to lead the design and manufacture of a highly efficient prototype battery-electric vehicle for competition at the 2019 Shell Eco Marathon, London. At the competition, we achieved our best result yet, gaining our first valid attempt on track, and achieving best UK team in our category.My role was to lead a group of sub-team managers, guiding the project by use of progress meetings, technical discussions and task scheduling to ensure that all aspects of the vehicle were integrated together into one harmonious design that achieved our goals whilst remaining within budget and compliant with competition rules. This required me to remain open minded to all potential solutions, and clear on the targets set out at the beginning of the year.I worked closely with a wide range of different people, from fellow students and university technicians to external companies and sponsors.
