As a SPEBC paralegal, I have acted as liaison with the SPEBC, the servicing PEB, and the U.S. Army Physical Disability Agency. I prepare cases, clients, witness identification, documents, legal research, legal writing, typing contingents for extensions, waivers and witness requests for civilian and Reserve attorneys on temporary assignment. I also provide briefings and other educational materials for assigned attorneys. Assisting the SMEBC, I use my personnel skills to build a rapport with the Soldiers and Family Assistance Center (SFAC) located at Ft. Sam Houston. The SFAC is a one stop shop of 14 different servicing supporting warriors in transition and veterans. My relationship with the SFAC helps me provide our wounded warriors with legal assistance and make referrals for retired soldiers in MEB counsel. I stay current on changes to military physical disability law to include any updates to federal law, the Veterans Administration Schedule for Rating Disabilities (VASRD); DoD Directives, directive-type memoranda, instructions, and regulations; United States Army Physical Disability Agency (USAPDA) Policy Memoranda; Army Regulations; and Army plans, procedures, and operations orders.
