Director of Development for the Master Developer of SouthField, a 1,400 acre master planned, smart-growth community on the site of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station. SouthField is the largest smart growth project in New England and one of the premier master planned initiatives in the country. When completed, SouthField will be a mixed-use development consisting of 2,855 residences, 2 million square feet of commercial space, an 18-hole golf course, a 45-acre recreational complex, and hundreds of acres of public amenities. I (along with the rest of the Northeast Regional Team) manage all aspects of this redevelopment project including entitlements, permitting, water, wastewater, landscaping, irrigation, taxes, municipal bonding, special assessments, public financing, construction of infrastructure (roads, sidewalks, water and wastewater infrastructure and utilities), horizontal infrastructure, land sales to vertical developers, oversight of the vertical developers to ensure compliance with the SouthField design guidelines, and marketing. I also manage two major infrastructure projects—the Parkway project, a 3 mile, 4 lane roadway that traverses the site connecting Weymouth Street in Rockland to Route 18 in Weymouth, and the relocation of the South Weymouth Commuter Rail station from its present location to inside SouthField

Responsible for the development aspects of projects in design and construction, most notably Archstone Boston Common, a 420-unit luxury apartment building located at 660 Washington Street, Boston and Archstone Cambridge, a 426-unit luxury apartment building in the North Point section of Cambridge. Responsible for the design, construction, and delivery to Archstone’s Operations Group of these projects. This work included the oversight of the design consultants, selection and implementation of finishes and fit-out, negotiating and implementation of contracts with the general contractor and consultants, the oversight of the construction to ensure compliance with permits and plans, coordination of turnover to Operations and management of the project budgets. In 2008, Archstone Boston Common was presented a Pillars of Industry Award for the “Best High-Rise Apartment” by the National Association of Home Builders.

Member of the Regulatory Practice Group with a practice that focused on regulatory and environmental law including the development, permitting and regulatory compliance of projects including power plants, railroad lines, hotels and fast-food restaurant sites, rendering of environmental opinions, drafting contracts for the purchase of air credits, oversight of private party cleanups under Chapter 21E (the state’s superfund law), including a PCB cleanup at the site of a local power plant, the prosecution and defense of cost recovery actions under Chapter 21E and environmental consultant liability cases, provision of legal advice concerning the allocation of environmental liability in the context of real estate development projects and transactions, adjudicatory appeals of wetlands cases, and environmental compliance issues. I also managed the environmental due diligence conducted by a major university with respect to its acquisition and development of a steam plant and negotiated the acquisition documents between the university and the seller; obtained and administered all permits required for the construction and operation of two new power plants in Massachusetts, oversaw the extensive soil and groundwater remediation of both sites, and authored the legal opinion to support the $1.5 billion financing for these two projects. I also managed the outstanding Chapter 21E issues and negotiated the environmental provisions of the acquisition documents concerning a sale-leaseback of a large manufacturing facility located north of Boston.
