    Since 2009, DOE has invested over $1B in 60 Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRC) that span 40 States, 150 institutions, 1,275 senior investigators, and 5,000+ students, postdocs, and staff. • EFRC MANAGEMENT: Helped establish management practices at program inception, participated in 54 management reviews and 35+ midterm reviews, helped run two funding opportunities, and prepared answers to stakeholder inquiries.• COMMUNICATIONS: Designed and maintained the DOE EFRC (science.energy.gov/bes/efrc) and EFRC community (energyfrontier.us) websites; and wrote about the EFRC program.• EFRC PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS' MEETINGS: Co-organized four major EFRC meetings in Washington, D.C. Conceived of and lead the 2013, 2015, and 2017 Student and Postdoc Talk competitions to highlight the early career contributions to the EFRC program. • EARLY CAREER NETWORK: Established a network of representatives from 40+ BES centers that organize national meet-ups, professional development webinars, excursions, and panels at EFRC meetings.• DATA MANAGEMENT AND ANALYSIS: Collected and analyzed EFRC-related information to more efficiently answer short-deadline requests and long-term impact questions using a relational database, systematic electronic filing system, excel, network analysis software, and web-based tools. * BUDGET: Revamped monthly budget forms to improve accuracy and efficiency of the process. Efforts were called “nothing but spectacular” and of “long, enduring impact on Basic Energy Sciences.” * EARLY CAREER RESEARCH PROGRAM : Coordinated the Office of Science Early Career Research Program for Basic Energy Sciences from 2013 – 2015. * AWARDS: 2012 Secretary of Energy’s Appreciation Award – “As a core member of the EFRC Management Team, Dr. Robin Hayes worked long hours, under intense pressures.     Part of the 6-member team that launched the 5-yr, $777 million Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) program that includes 46 multi-disciplinary centers with over 115 university, national laboratory, non-profit, and industrial partners. Each center addresses one or more grand challenges and use-inspired basic research needs in the areas of solar energy utilization, electrical energy storage, catalysis, solid state lighting, advanced nuclear energy systems, materials under extreme environments, carbon capture and sequestration, combustion, hydrogen, and superconductivity.* Conceived and established Frontiers in Energy Research, an electronic newsletter run by an editorial board drawn from the more than 1800 EFRC early career scientists, in order to build communication skills, form a network among America's future energy scientists, and tell the public about the amazing EFRC research. * Lead organizer for the major Science for Our Nation’s Energy Future: EFRC Summit & Forum (http://www.energyfrontier.us/content/agenda) in Washington, D.C. that brought together over 1,060 science and policy leaders, including Secretary Chu, to showcase the early accomplishments of the EFRCs and promote collaboration across the national energy enterprise. * Created and implemented the Life at the Frontiers of Energy Research video contest (http://www.energyfrontier.us/video-contest) as part of the EFRC Summit to show the groundbreaking science being done by the EFRCs. Featured on the DOE Energy blog, DOE Facebook, and Chemical & Engineering Newscript blog.* Identified good practices in multi-disciplinary research centers gleaned from the 46 half day EFRC management peer-reviews. Incorporated feedback from DOE staff into the document that was distributed to all the EFRC Directors by the Office of Basic Energy Sciences.
