Senior Counsel
CurrentServe as on-site point of contact on legal issues for over 160 schools, and other staff located in the CFNs; work collaboratively to provide consistent and prompt legal advice to support schools and CFNs. Serve as liaison to city, state, and federal legal departments, such as the City Law Department and the Department of Education’s Office of Legal Services and Office of Labor Relations. Provide legal advice on NCLB, Title VII and other relevant statutes. Conduct on-site training regarding pertinent legal issues. Review proposed disciplinary matters before they are referred to the Office of Legal Services. Consult on student discipline matters; prepare suspension appeal decisions. Prepare responses to human rights complaints and other litigation. Respond to Freedom of Information Law requests. Respond to inquiries on various legal issues, including labor and employment, discipline, compliance with federal, state and city laws and regulations, and implementation of Chancellor’s rules, regulations and procedures. Serve as part of the Senior Management team to resolve complex school/parent/Parent Association legal issues. Work collaboratively to ensure an efficient, systematic, legally and educationally sound approach to service delivery. Supervise disciplinary investigator.
