After I retired from the USPS in 2009, I worked as a dog walker for a year and a half, as a mystery shopper for five years, and finally decided I wanted to make beaded jewelry on behalf of shelter animals, with the lion’s share of my clients coming from the internet. I love making beaded jewelry and find I have a knack for turning out beautiful pieces that attract a lot of people. Bracelets, necklaces, anklets, earrings and keychains—I have made items that have elicited oohs and aahs from recipients. I always did have an eye for awesome arts and crafts. I have a spot on Facebook, Jewels to Help Homeless Animals, and several repeat customers. I have sent donations to a bunch of shelters, including Little Shelter, the Humane Society, Shelter Connection, and Forgotten Friends. I do not have a booming business, just a very modest one. I charge only $10 for any piece of jewelry, postage included; additional pieces are only five dollars. Sounds like I’m giving it away, doesn’t it? I think so, too, but most of my clients are from Facebook and don’t have much money. I was charging $15 including postage and $10 for each additional piece, but I wasn’t getting many sales. Even Christmas sales were rather disappointing. Yet everyone who receives my jewelry is delighted. The product is very well received.
