We own key components of our server codebase that are central to all parts of the product, including Identity Access Management, our high performance OLAP database, and our main server code. I led a team of 10-15 compiler optimizer developers, in a matrixed team of 45 developers working on two different components. These developers in turn worked on a larger team of about 200 developers, testers, planners, support and service personnel, and other managers.I coordinated hiring of software developers for 7 departments working in compiler optimization. Each year I reviewed up to a thousand resumes, reached out to hundreds of candidates, screened or interviewed dozens, and hired the best. From 2011 through 2016 I hired 90 developers.

Software developer on a Java JIT compiler team at the IBM Canada Software Laboratory in Markham Ontario. Worked primarily in service for first years, analyzing customer software failures and providing first workarounds, then when a tested fix was ready, providing the fix.Also designed, wrote, and supervised the development of a performance analysis tool that became known as Visual Performance Analyzer. This tool was eventually released on the IBM alphaWorks program.

I was the CFO of Stone Soup Food Co-op - a 500-member food co-operative in Toronto - for a one-year period. My responsibilities included bookkeeping, presenting finances to the board at monthly meetings, preparing the books for the auditor, and continually stressing to the board the importance of responsible fiscal management and the precarious position of our finances (the co-op ceased operations within three years of opening because we could not achieve profitability). As CFO I devised and saw to realization a number of innovations to improve our cash flow and profitability, which helped extend the life of the co-op but could not resolve the problems that prevented us from succeeding long-term.

Stone Soup Food Co-op was a 500-member food co-operative that had a storefront at 2168 Danforth Ave in Toronto. I was president of the 9-member executive board of the co-op for one year. We met monthly to discuss co-op policy, finances, staff and other issues. We interviewed candidates for paid positions. As president I chaired the meetings and tried to maintain focus both within the meetings and in general on the key issues of achieving profitability and sticking with our vision of a member-owned co-op focused on justice and sustainability.
