While overseeing daily operations, increased the digital staff, created an investigative unit, reassigned beats and refocused weekly publications, achieving documented growth in single-copy sales and dominance of the regional online market. Led paper to six national honors – Scripps-Howard, Society of Professional Journalists, Investigative Reporters and Editors, the Association of Health Care Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists – the most in its 140-year history. These achievements were realized while reducing newsroom expenses by 20 percent.Promoted from News Director (2008-09) and Editorial Page Editor (2004-2008). Led editorial board and wrote weekly column. Executed editorial campaigns leading to local, statewide and federal legislation and reforms, including the repeal of an Act of Congress.
