I directed Big Picture magazine's editorial team, guiding content across all media platforms including our print magazine, digital edition, social media, website, e-newsletters and other e-media formats. Big Picture magazine covers digital printing technology and its creative applications, and is one of seven visual communications brands at ST Media Group.

At VMSD, I managed internal and external staff to create an 80-page monthly magazine for 20,000+ subscribers. I also created a ground-up social media strategy with monthly management using Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and HootSuite (along with Google Analytics, for tracking). During my time with VMSD, I helped triple participation in the annual Designer Dozen competition in one year, grew our blog channel from 2 to 11 bloggers in 3 months while decreasing spending, and increased Pinterest referral traffic to website 160% (about 2,000 visits) year-to-year.Day-to-day, I assigned articles, planned monthly content, managed an annual freelance budget, coordinated contests and organized annual conference sessions, including the fabulous Iron Merchant challenge at the International Retail Design Conference.

At NQPI, I worked with academic research scientists to identify needs and translate research findings for lay and technical audiences, including writing and editing web and newsletter content. I covered topics ranging from nanochemistry and nanophysics to the practical applications of nanoscience in engineering -- and more!

Journalism History is an academic publication covering the history of mass communication. As the journal's editorial assistant, I formatted the quarterly publication using InDesign and Photoshop, input corrections and formatting changes, submitted the document to a printer and managed subscription lists.

For the Ohio University student newspaper, I wrote a weekly column called "Health Nut," which allowed me to channel my health obsession to a creative end. I covered topics ranging from hookah to mental health during my tenure.

The Center for Respite Care is a nonprofit that provides healthcare to homeless adults, and helps them finding housing and healing. Working with private sector and immigration clients, I coordinated DNA specimen collections throughout the U.S. and worldwide, with a focus on Asian countries including Vietnam and Laos. I maintained strict standards for client confidentiality, including high-profile cases, and advised consumers regarding compliance, scientific, legal and immigration issues. I served as backup for Spanish-speaking client service representatives, helping to arrange shipping for DNA samples from Latin American countries to the U.S. and to answer questions from Spanish-speaking clients.

Escuela Culturlingua is a private language school with four branches in Mexico. I worked in Sahuayo, Michoacán, teaching six hour-long ESL classes per day. My students ranged in age and ability from 5-year-old beginners to nearly fluent young adults and professionals looking to pick up English to use at work. Students worked to present a mid-course presentation for their families, which included singing songs, reciting simple phrases and describing themselves.I speak, read and write Spanish at a high-intermediate level and continue to develop my language skills.
