Originally the Peace with Justice Coffeehouse at Washington Square United Methodist Church, I conceived, developed, and continue to coordinate this open mic venue as an outreach ministry comprised of a monthly gathering of poets, writers, musicians, and performing and visual artists with the purpose of building authentic community and sharing visions of peace, love, and social justice.I am also currently responsible for house management; coordination of publicity and public relations; and maintaining an online presence via social networking, calendars, websites, e-letters, and e-mail. The overall aim of Kairos is the creation of a welcoming, nurturing, and engaging space for artists and audiences of all ages in the heart of the West Village in New York City.

As an Instructor in the Division of Arts and Sciences, I teach courses in English Composition, Introduction to Literature, Introduction to Poetry, Speech, and the Humanities. Inspired by June Jordan's Poetry for the People, I created TCI's first Introduction to Poetry course. I also direct, curate, and host performance poetry, open mic, and performing arts events with Introduction to Poetry students, in collaboration with Kairos Poetry Cafe.
With many thanks to the Omega School, I was the Lead Instructor in the START program, whose mission is to help students to compete for construction apprenticeships by becoming proficient in Mathematics, Reading, blueprint reading, and OSHA standards. START instructors and tutors help students to prepare for Accuplacer and other required placement tests.
Substitute GED Instructor at The Omega School in Madison, Wisconsin. The Omega School provides students with individualized instruction that empowers them to complete their Adult Basic Education (ABE) requirements and to focus their efforts toward proficiency in the job market and the creation of long-term career goals and strategies. Thanks to our Director and Principle, Oscar Mireles, I became the Lead Instructor of the START program.
I collaborated for one semester with a fourth-grade teacher to integrate creative dramatics into her reading and language arts curriculum. I created and directed an original play with her wonderfully creative fourth-grade students. The play was presented at New Dramatists.
As a Visiting Assistant Professor in the departments of Education and Theatre, I taught courses in Language Arts Education, Improvisational Acting, and Theatre for Young Audiences. I co-directed with Rick Barrows Illinois Repertory Theatre's (IRT) production of The Good Times Are Killing Me, and was the assistant to the director of the IRT's production of Flying West. I also helped to create and direct Inner Voices, a peer education/interactive theatre program sponsored by McKinley Health Education and the Counseling Center.
