Worked with a small UI team that was responsible for maintaining and enhancing the UI for the advertising analytics and measurements SaaS platform. Focused on making the UI more responsive and efficient while delivering new features in a timely manner.Primary person responsible for moving the UI architecture from a legacy, proprietary, custom framework to a more mainstream solution based on Spring MVC on the server side and AngularJS on the front-end. Implemented a migration plan that allowed the existing framework to co-exist with the new framework allowing new development to occur using the improved framework while still allowing development and maintenance on the old framework. The result was minimal impact on delivering new features.Introduced a clean REST API that the front end could utilize to make the UI data driven and much more efficient when communicating with the server. Instituted an automatic build and deploy process using Jenkins. Assisted and mentored team members on best practices for UI and REST design. Created a front end framework for UI development based on AngularJS as well as implementing server UI components using AngularJS directives. Also involved in hiring and interviewing, UI usability reviews, and task planning.

Redesigned several functional areas to resuse common components and more modern technologies such as drag-n-drop and ajax. Implemented email features such as folders, HTML editing, and auto-complete addressing. Implemented a full feature table component that utilized smart paging features, sorting, and filtering. Designed and implemented a full-featured calendar with multiple views and overlapping event display. Technologies included JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery-UI, and plugins on the client side and a Java based custom framework based on a template engine requiring a strict separation of logic in the presentation layer.Explored new technologies such as MongoDB, Hudson/Jenkins, Groovy and Gradle to enhance the scalability of the service and the build process. Contributed to the design and implementation of the next generation of the server framework.Developed and published the mobile app for the SchoolLoop platform. Built with web technologies including AngularJS and Cordova.Also involved in the hiring and management of several contractors that assisted in the development of the product.

Managed a small development team and designed the UI/UX for an enterprise level management console built with JEE and JSF technologies. Worked with a design firm to create the initial UI and visual design. Developed a set of prototypes to define the overall functionality and user experience. Wrote requirements and architecture specifications, conducted and participated in technical reviews. Created projects plans, hired technical staff, produced status reports, and mentored developers. Worked closely with the India based development team.Before transitioning into a technical manager role, designed and implemented a new tabbed based interface for the Swing based application that was acquired from RouteScience. Solely designed and implemented a Java Swing based status and reporting application for the PathControl product, a network analysis and optimization hardware device. The application used a dashboard for presenting an instant view of the system using real time charts, network topology, and HTML based reports. Worked with marketing, customers, and developers to define the functional specifications and overall design of the UI. Created a flexible event-driven architecture as the basis of the application. The application was developed using Java and Swing as well as JFreeChart, RRDTool, PostgreSQL, XSLT, and JavaMail. Used multi-threaded programming to allow the client to load more quickly and provide a more responsive interface.Conducted code reviews, design reviews, and provided mentoring for other developers. Also worked on server-side applications that included an event management system, a data acquisition layer, and a high level architecture.

- Led the redesign of the UI for the web site. Simplified the UI and identified core functional areas and made them directly accessible. - Implemented tools to migrate data from two existing SQL databases to one Oracle database. - Started design and implementation of a new architecture involving partitioning functionality and creating services for major functional areas. - Lead member of a small team responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of a complex Internet-based Bond Trading System. - Worked closely with the business side to define requirements, build a prototype, and design the interface of the trading system. Using the prototype, the business principals were able to raise more than 80 million dollars in funding.- Designed the system as a multi-tiered, multi-threaded distributed system with fault-tolerance, high availability, and real-time delivery of information. Built using Java, Weblogic, RMI, and Oracle. Security was integral to the system and utilized SSL, certificates, and a permission based model. - Implemented key GUI components that were reused throughout the system including a grid component that could efficiently handle thousands of rows. - Designed a framework to easily create client applications with minimal effort. Used framework to build trading, trading support, administration, and test harness clients.

- Designed and developed a Macintosh based multimedia management application in C++, utilizing Quicktime, MPEG, Laserdisc/VTR control, and an Oracle database on the back-end. - Involved in all aspects of bringing a commercial-quality product to market including analyzing customer needs, designing the product, and managing development and testing. - Investigated new technologies including Java, Digital Video, and Internet applications. - Co-developed the technology that was later sold with the company to Reuters New Media.
