Unbeknownst to him, Rob Marbury actually began his career in the 8th Grade, drawing cartoons and advertisements for the PTA handbook. His payment? A whopping $5.00 check! From there he expressed his creativity through writing parodies, comic strips and entertainment pieces for the Parkview High School newspaper, and followed his path to the University of Georgia where he majored in Advertising and minored in Graphic Design in 1988.An internship for Peachtree Advertising evolved into a job as production artist, using the NEW MacIntosh II (!!) to set type that was sent out for velox, pasted to mechanical boards with overlays and sent to the film house for separations before making it to the printer...about a week later! After five years of honing his skills and building a side book of freelance design clients, Rob joined three other friends to found Max Productions, a “design-driven print production company” in 1993. Max enjoyed much success, as annual billings reached $5 MM with a staff topping out at 20. The team developed strong verticals in Healthcare and Hospital marketing, as well as Legal Marketing, where Rob spoke at conferences about the merits of creative thinking and branding.In 2008, Rob met Bob Jones, former executive creative director of J Walter Thompson, Chicago. The two became fast friends and it all naturally tied in to Rob's desire to move beyond “production and design” to an even higher caliber of distinctively creative advertising. In 2010, Rob left Max2o with a renewed drive, a stronger faith and an amazing team to start Marbury Creative Group.After 14 years of building Marbury Creative Group with a talented group of professionals, the firm grew to a staff of 18, with a wide array of clients including Spice World, Inc., ALIMERA Sciences, HALYARD* Owens & Minor, and the Lodge at Gulf State Park. Marbury was acquired by Luckie & Company, a legacy 71-year-old agency in April, 2024. Rob says, “We have partnered on projects with Luckie for a while, but as one agency we’re delivering a powerful fusion of strategy and creativity that clients and their stakeholders will truly appreciate.”
