Profile bio

About Rob Salmon

I am passionate about taking a strategic approach to marketing communications, media and editorial and have spent the last 14 or so years working in these fields - much of it within the sporting, charity and digital arenas.I started off in the world of PR and back in 1998 I was Carling Premiership Press Officer responsible for initiatives like launching Carling Opta stats and promoting the Player of the Month and Manager of the Month. From there I went on to be Sports Editor at AOL UK at a time when they were the country's leading ISP before moving back inhouse at Carling to manage their Premier League and League Cup sponsorships. I then moved onto Fast Web Media - an agency in Manchester where I was responsible for establishing the agency's marketing services department. We mainly worked in sport for clients such as The EFL, Premier League, UEFA NM, Manchester United, Slazenger, Carling and Dunlop.Next up I had an enjoyable spell at Molson Coors where I was responsible for activity like the award winning Carling.com website and iPint app (UK's most downloaded free iPhone app). During this time I chaired the ISBA (Association of British Advertisers) Digital Action Group. I also enjoyed a rewarding spell as a member of the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) Social Media Council. From Molson Coors I became Director of Digital Marketing at Torchbox - an independently digital agency based in Oxfordshire. Torchbox provide a wide range of services from strategy development to design and build to content creation, search engine optimisation and media consultancy. I very much enjoyed working with clients such as Oxfam, The Internet Society and Chatham House. After six really enjoyable years I returned to Molson Coors where I took up the position of Carling Transformational Change manager. I loved all my roles at Molson Coors, but I knew at some point I would follow my dream of getting involved in tennis. I am now a full time tennis coach and podcaster. I love introducing people of all our ages to our brilliant sport and talking about tennis on the podcast I host called My Tennis Journey - do search it up!

Listed skills include Digital Marketing, Online Marketing, Social Media, Online Advertising, and 46 others.

Current

Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom

I have loved starting the My Tennis Journey podcast and It has been amazing to see it rise up the UK Tennis Podcast chart on Chartable into the top ten! The aim is to bring to life compelling tennis stories. From what it is like to play doubles with Andy Murray, to heading off to American Uni and becoming an All American, to being recognised with the LTA Lifetime Achievement Award. What unites all the interviews is the positive difference tennis can make to peoples' lives. I'd love love love it if you'd please take the time to have a listen and subscribe!

Product Development Manager

I'm v excited to be starting to work with a company I'm really passionate about! When I first started coaching, one of the first coaching aids I bought was a TopspinPro. It helps people to learn the most important shot in tennis quickly and effectively. Now I'm working with the team to develop new products. Exciting. Tennis Coach & Editor

Serveandvolley.Net

Derby, England, United Kingdom

FOR THE LOVE OF TENNIS...Tennis has played a positive role in my life for as long as I can remember - so I'm buzzing to make the move to be a tennis coach and editor of ServeandVolley.Net.As a child I played County Tennis for Cumbria and then for Derbyshire. I went to an American University to play tennis and football and as an adult have won Senior titles at the Derbyshire Closed. I am the captain of Derbyshire 45+ and am proud to have served my County as Chair of the Derbyshire Tennis Association. I met my wife Beccy through tennis and am now a parent to three children - Phoebe, Stanley and Ned - who all play tennis and have attended Derbyshire County Coaching. Being a tennis parent has given me an insight into the pressures put on young players and I have striven to develop an approach for them that keeps it fun as I believe enjoyment is the driving force that will keep them playing our brilliant sport.Through my times in tennis I made enduring friendships and learnt how to be resilient, how to perform in front of an audience and how to handle pressure. These skills have served me well in my career in sports and marketing working alongside brands such as The Premier League, Football League, Slazenger, Dunlop, UEFA, Manchester United, Samsung, Yahoo and Carling.I am a Level 3 tennis coach and I am LTA Accredited+. I have an up to date emergency first aid qualification and DBS certificate.

May 1999 - Jan 2000

Carling Premiership Press Officer

When I got this job it was my dream job. As a big football fan, I saw an advert for 'Carling Premiership Press Officer'. It said you needed to show a love of football. So I doctored a Roy of the Rovers cartoon about a goalkeeper that went up front and couldn't stop scoring. It finished with: 'the boy's a natural why haven't we seen him before'. It helped me get an interview and secure the job. I used to do everything from Player and Manager of the Month, to looking after the CarlingNet website and launching Carling Opta stats. Great fun.
