Mainland Png Highlands

Was employed as field geologist among expatriate geologists from the British Geological Survey (BGS) to work on PNG mainland regional geological mapping project based in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Project aim was to carry out regional mapping to establish areas of mineral potential through field geochemical sampling, air borne surveys and ground surface reconnaissance mapping to determine economic mineral potential of mainland PNG. Field responsibilities include making geological descriptions of rock samples with promising economic minerals and metals coatings. My responsibilities included stream geochemical sampling, make basic wallrock, bedrock and outcrop rock exposure geological descriptions. I did awareness to local people to inform them of our purpose of being there on their land and the likely outcome of data acquired would be used for in future. Collected rock samples for thin section preparation in laboratory in Port Moresby, prepare field equipment and sampling geological gears for field work.
