Sunday extra sections included photos, graphics and multiple articles from a variety of perspectives to illustrate the various impacts and influences on harder hitting news such as the then newly emerging methamphetamine epidemic, water quality issues surrounding the expanding poultry and nursery industries, and topical events such as ice storms, a major bridge collapse and economic trends for which I was nominated for three Pulitzer awards, two Associated Press awards and various state honors. Using Quark page layout, I served as copy editor for several months and used graphics and charts to enhance design and quality. Began as a receptionist and developed data base to generate reports on call flow for better staffing and got moved to the Freight Brokerage department where I developed an automated fax program to broadcast available trailers and coordinate best rates for transporting goods with a variety of companies so that our drivers did not return to our facilities with empty trailers. Used AS-400 billing system and was promoted to accounting department but about that time I was recruited by IDEX Corporation and wished to utilize my engineering education and pursued that opportunity.
