English Professor teaching a wide range of English courses at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun campus. My main focus is composition, where I teach multiple sections College Composition I & II in all delivery formats: face-to-face, online synchronous Zoom classes, and online asynchronous classes. I also regularly teach Intro to Journalism, and, occasionally, American Literature Women in Literature to be taught in the campus in many years.

I also serve as the Lead Faculty for Dual Enrollment English, mentoring and collaborating with 40-50 high school teachers who offer NOVA courses in the the Loudoun County Public Schools, Arlington County Public Schools, and several private schools. Each year, I reviewed all faculty syllabi and offered comprehensive feedback on how they aligned with learning objectives; I also created and maintained a bank of assignment and lesson examples to assist faculty in their own course development. Serving as the subject-matter expert, I designed and delivered both in-person, online synchronous and online asynchronous professional development experiences on topics including Writing Across the Curriculum, creating authentic assessments, and navigating teaching with A.I. I visited each instructor's class yearly, providing constructive feedback for ensuring courses were equally rigorous with their on-campus counterparts. I also served as the dual enrollment instructors' campus contact, improving our high-school/college relationships.

Associate Professor teaching a wide range of English courses at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun campus. I focus on composition, where I teach multiple sections College Composition I & II in face-to-face, hybrid, and online sections. I also teach Intro to Literature, Survey of American Literature since 1865, Intro to Journalism, and, occasionally, varied levels of ESL composition or reading courses. In Fall 2017 semester, I designed and taught the first section of Women in Literature to be taught in the campus in many years. I have maintained and updated my experience with online course development and curriculum design, as I also teach both composition and journalism courses for the online campus at NOVA, the Extended Learning Institute. In addition, I am Involved in student development services via my role as an advisor to more than 50 students, and as the campus faculty advisor for the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship program and as a participant on several student development initiatives, such as start-of-term student success conferences. Working with colleagues, I also strive to incorporate more Writing-Across-the-Curriculum approaches to our campus.

Serve as Assistant Dean to a department with 15 full-time faculty and 30-40 part-time adjunct faculty. Interview, hire and evaluate part-time faculty. Schedule all part-time faculty for more than 100 face-to-face, hybrid and online courses each term, often working rapidly to staff courses with a very short turnaround time. Advise and mentor new full-time and part time faculty, as well as graduate student fellows. Assist with leading faculty professional development workshops and departmental meetings. Maintain campus bank of shared syllabi and assignments to assist colleagues with course and unit planning. Collaborate with departments across the college, especially ESL, to meet student needs. Manage student complaints. Facilitate questions on English department credit transfer process into NOVA or from NOVA into our four-year university partners.

Assistant professor teaching a wide range of English and English as Second Language (ESL) classes at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun campus. Teach 15 credits a term including College Composition I & II, Intro to Literature, Survey of American Literature since 1865, Intro to Journalism, and varied levels of ESL composition. Experience with online course development and curriculum design, as I also teach two courses for the online campus at NOVA. Involved in student development via service as campus student newspaper advisor. College-wide service includes faculty advisor for the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship program and chair of the College Council on General Education.

Full-time member of the English faculty at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun campus. Teach 15 credits of English courses each term, focusing mainly on composition classes. Focus specifically on improving student's ability to write critical, analytical essays at the college level. Work to incorporate technology in the classroom. In the spring 2010 semester, I will also begin teaching journalism courses for the campus.

Taught classes in American literature and culture and English conversation practice at Pazmany Peter Catholic University (http://www.btk.ppke.hu/), located outside of Budapest, Hungary. Focused particularly on improving students' critical thinking and English analytical writing abilities. Worked as an advisor at the Hungarian-American Fulbright Commission in Budapest, focusing on students interested in studying in the US by aiding in TOEFL, GRE and SAT test prep, leading writing workshops and individual consulting. Engaged in much intensive one-on-one work with student writing, namely entrance essays and personal statements needed for admission into US undergraduate and graduate courses. Developed new workshops, including a GRE prep course, for students. Also assisted at many events about American culture, such as a post-election forum discussing the 2008 Presidential campaigns and a US college fair.

Taught Writing in an Interdisciplinary Environment, an intensive, entry-level writing course that focuses on improving students writing across the curriculum. Worked with non-traditional/adult students, and used a variety of multi-media as well as community-based enrichment to keep students engaged and excited.

Taught developmental writing (remedial) and college-transfer level composition in an environment where students' ages, abilities and backgrounds varies widely. Used multiple and innovative pedagogies to reach students with different learning styles effectively. In developmental courses, I incorporated critical thinking skills alongside basic literacy skills, such as sentence structure, grammar, spelling, paragraph construction and basic 5-paragraph structure. In composition courses, I focused on improving analytical and critical writing skills using a variety of literary and cultural texts. Utilized multimedia to make classes more interesting and effective.

Research and application of innovative pedagogy. The center researches teaching practices, assessment techniques, instructional design, student learning, and technologies to enhance the latest educational environments. Offers programs for both graduate students and faculty to improve as teachers and implement new pedagogy. My position as a graduate associate included research assistance on a wide variety of topics, some technological assistance, work on university-wide and departmental assessment projects and some administrative duties, such as conference management for our academic events.

Served as a tutor in Georgetown University's Writing Center. Worked with graduate students across all disciplines, as well as non-traditional students from the School of Continuing Studies' programs. Specialized in working with graduate students in journalism and PR writing programs offered via the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) program. Also taught grammar workshops and boot camps for MPS.

Taught class of high-school students (half U.S. natives, half international) basic media and communications theory as well as practical application to practical media. Used a multimedia approach to teaching, including use of a class blog in lieu of traditional reflection papers.

Worked as a general-assignment reporter for a 40,000-daily circulation newspaper covering the suburbs west and north of Pittsburgh, Pa. Wrote stories on a variety of subjects, including politics, development, crime, feature/trend stories and entertainment reviews. Did freelance work on trends/entertainment for Go Magazine, the paper’s monthly entertainment magazine. Paper available online at www.timesonline.com and Go at www.goburgh.com.

Worked as a financial journalist for Dow Jones Newswires, a real-time electronic news source with more than 300,000 subscribers. Wrote on extremely tight deadlines, and had several pieces published in The Wall Street Journal. Assisted editors with sepcial end-of-quarter and year-end coverage, and also worked on longer-form features.
