Currently working as a locum General Practitoner in the deep south of Cape Town, I have extensive experience in the field of prehospital emergency medicine as well as in the field of disability management, and am currently building my knowledge around women’s sexual health as well as metabolic health, with a focus on prevention and holistic lifestyle interventions. My aim is to maximise health and enjoyment of life rather than focus on disease treatment. I have been teaching since 2013 and enjoy facilitating discussion and debate in the classroom, with an emphasis on empowering participants and my patients to make their own decisions based on the evidence presented along with their own lived experience intuition.Through my work as a paramedic I became comfortable working in many areas and holding a safe space for people within their own homes, as well as developing the ability to improvise based on resources available. Due to having lived all over Southern Africa I have also had the opportunity to work in multiple socioeconomic and cultural areas, and pride myself on my ability to build rapport with people from all walks of life. I have excellent clinical skills and enjoy minor ops procedures where required and am a fast learner.I continue to focus on having an excellent bedside manner and the ability to make people feel comfortable. I often find that patients will share information with me that they might not have done with another clinician. My long term goals include improving access to contraception, safe termination of pregnancy and believe that with each women given autonomy over her body we steer our world to a better future. Through personal experience I have found alternative methods of managing anxiety and stress related disease as well as metabolic disease, and I have a deep interest in preventative, functional and integrative medicine. I aim for a sex-positive approach to sexual health and have a focus on sex and gender diverse communities, with a focus on an inclusive and positive medical practice that exists to make all feel welcome and safe.
