I gave targeted support to young people who were affected by various forms of abuse or neglect, had low self-esteem, low motivation, or low mood, identified as having anger management issues, were NEET, had additional needs or were involved in anti-social behaviour or were victims of CCE or CSE. I had an ongoing caseload of around 10 young people with whom I meet weekly or fortnightly for around an hour with the involvement potentially lasting up to a year depending on need. I additionally supported them through advocating their views with families, schools/educational providers, and local organisations as well as sometimes Social Care or the Youth Offending Service. As Lead Professional for many of these young people, I was responsible for organising Team around the Family meetings, safeguarding, and signposting to further specific support such as CAMHS, counselling organisations or other local agencies or groups. I also worked with my colleagues to deliver group work around themes such as healthy relationships, staying safe, recognising CSE and previously Level 1 Youth Work Qualification. Some of my earlier work in this role was to help with residential trips and I was involved delivering and supporting the NCS programme for our young people as well. I also helped run more generic groups such as cookery and mentoring groups as well as a bike maintenance group.
