Emergency Dispatcher
Current• Enter, update, and retrieves information from the Kirk's EMS computer-aided dispatch system to receive emergency calls from the public requesting medical or other emergency services. • Determines the nature and location of the emergency; prioritizes and dispatches the appropriate apparatus as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. • Receives and processes 911 emergency calls and maintains contact with all units on assignment for their status and location. • Monitors direct emergency alarms from all emergency management services, and schedules non-emergency services as well. • Operates and monitors a variety of communications equipment including telephones, computer systems, and radio consoles that consist of several complex public safety radio frequencies. • Maintains correct and accurate computer and paper logs of emergent and non-emergent ambulance calls. • Completes all assigned duties - including common office duties to include but not to be limited to maintaining office cleanliness, filing, PCR examination and evaluation for accuracy and completeness, scheduling of non-emergency calls. • Holds and participates in shift change meetings with dispatchers coming on duty, as well as dispatchers going off duty to assure that all pertinent information as far as dispatching is exchanged properly such as: crew problems and scheduling issues, units that are to be dispatched and in what order, equipment malfunctions, scheduled calls, etc. • Maintains contact with the EMS Director and Office Manager for all supervisory situations that arise including discrepancies that occur during the assigned shift.
