A challenging project charges me up. Developing new programs, undertaking new initiatives, inspiring others to join in… That’s what I do. These characteristics served me well while running a web development company earlier in my career, where I helped organizations develop their first web sites. To my clients, it was a nebulous project, but I provided clarity of purpose by focusing on the end user and emphasizing usability. For instance, I worked with an amateur hockey league to replace a burdensome scheduling chore with a simple online system that helped the whole organization function better. My web development and design skills brought dozens of good projects to life. My career has been diverse and entrepreneurial, encompassing creative and technical disciplines. My interpersonal skills made me a successful teacher at one of Chicago’s best arts organizations, where I developed curriculum and taught popular guitar, ensemble, performance and music theory classes for kids, teens and adults. I learned to value diversity and the power of community building through arts education by leading thousands of students through the learning process. I reached the conclusion that great teaching is fundamentally about showing learners how to think rather than what to think. If you were my student, you’d know how much I enjoy fostering your “eureka” moments. I’m on a continual quest to up my game. I recently completed a Master of Arts Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University, with the goal of taking a leadership role in a not-for-profit cultural institution. I’m honing analytics and management skills because these strengths will help me empower others to give back to the community through the arts. I am an avid reader and a lifelong learner, with a range of interests including arts and public policy, economics, history, math and technology. You’ll find me outgoing and eager to develop collaborative relationships. Together we will improve our community!
