From Funeral Director to Commercial Head in the IT industry, Rodney has certainly had an unconventional and interesting career path. Every one of his roles has honed his business skills and expertise, making him successful in his present role with PB Technologies. Spending four years as a Funeral Director, Rodney cultivated great empathy for people as they deal with loss. Throughout those years he also honed his skills in management; navigating the intricacies in arranging multiple funerals at once, whilst writing software to innovate a historically paper-based business. He then became a Systems Engineer for several years, before taking on the running of a Music Festival with 25,000 attendees, 1,000 volunteers and a large staff. He’s even been an evening radio talk show host before diving back into the IT Industry—working with Connect NZ as their Service and Sales Manager. The common factors in every role are consistent: interaction with people, technology and software development. Rodney has a knack of taking business innovation ideas and breaking them down into achievable steps. His career trajectory is based on bringing customers and staff together, journeying to ultimate success. At every point, that journey is underpinned by fundamentals of really listening to people and developing relationships. As Head of Commercial at PB Technologies for the past 8 years, Rodney utilises his unique skillset to grow the commercial business and the reputation of PB Technologies within the New Zealand and Australian technology sectors. One of the aspects of the IT industry that he particular enjoys is the ability to genuinely make a difference, helping other businesses to achieve their goals, “ it’s a real support industry, with opportunities to share in joint business success with customers”.In his spare time, Rodney enjoys spending time with his family at the beach bach or skiing at Mt Ruapehu. He proudly supports SPCA and KidsCan through PB Technology initiatives and is working within PB to develop sustainability and environmental impact reduction programs.
