I craft our newspaper; Freethought Today every month. I also design our brochures, flyers, art for action alerts, news clips, t-shirts and any other print collateral.

Designs complex print graphics and web animations using independent judgment, creativity, and computer equipment (Macintosh computers, Adobe Creative Suite CS6). Participates in design and production of multimedia campaigns, including conception of campaign materials ranging from magazine print ads and catalog pages, to static and animated web (Flash). Professional quality image production, retouching, color correction of photographic images for print and web (Adobe Photoshop CS6). A group of Photoshop Imaging Specialists (we are teachers, photographers, and/or graphic artists) at Archer Geographic. Responsible for retouching, color correcting and performing substancial image repairs using Photoshop CS4 on satellite images of Western Hemisphere Marinas and Ports ranging from the Mediterranean Sea, through Western Europe, to South America and the Pacific islands. The images will be added to a Maritime GPS system for shipping and pleasure boat operators. This position was slated to end in May of 2010, but has been extended by the client (CMap - a division of Boeing) into the first quarter of 2011, as they have ordered more image areas to be processed by Archer Geographic Ltd.

Having taught within the Graphic Design Area in the the past (2000-2001), I returned this semester to again teach the course; Introduction to Computer Graphics. I instructed students in using the Macintosh OS, and Adobe CS5 graphics software applications: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. The class consisted of software demonstrations, lectures, and educational training videos, and also by assigning a variety of creative, real world, print oriented assignments. We would then hold classroom critiques of finished projects to encourage students to exchange constructive commentary.

Worked at Great Big Pictures as a pre-press specialist, responsible for preflight checking and color correcting digital files for output at Great Big Pictures in Madison Wisconsin. There, we output beautiful graphic images at very large sizes for companies such as Guess, Walt Disney, Harley Davidson, etc. Unfortunately, laid off in June 2009 due to slow print sales due to the recent recession.

Responsible for creative graphic design and layout of newspaper section cover pages; Page one news covers, special news feature packages, lifestyle cover pages and sports cover pages in a fast paced print environment. Performed duties of Graphics Desk Editor when Graphics Desk Editor was absent or on vacation (5 weeks per year). Daily photo production; digital raster image downloads from Associated Press, internal image servers and staff photographers. Color correction and re-sizing of raster images using Photoshop CS2. Creation of photo illustrations, locator maps, info-graphics and charts on hot daily deadlines. Creative design, art direction and layout for special projects such as: The Answer Book, Badger Sports wraps, Lifestyle covers, etc. Design and creation of graphics for captimes.com web site.

Creative Art Direction, concept and production for cover illustrations created by professional illustrators, for a catalog of professional graphics software and stock digital images.Design and layout of clients’ advertising. Pre-flighting of electronic files, proofreading, pagination,and print production of four-color catalog pages utilizing a hi-resolution PDF workflow for the computer-to-plate printing process.Attended catalog press checks to sign off on print approvals at Quad Graphics, Lomira, WI.Created the final editions of Publisher’s Toolbox Catalog as a Freelance Design Consultant to successfully liquidate closing inventory.

Hired by Publisher's Toolbox in late 1998 to assist in creating client (vendor) advertising for a catalog of Digital Graphic Arts software and hardware catalog. A small creative department employing two Graphic Designers, a lead Graphic Designer (who also performed the function of Art Director) and a Production Manager. Responsible for creating catalog ads for companies like Adobe, QuarkXpress, Epson, Nikon, Artville, Photodisc, Extensis, Metacreations, etc. After working a year at the company, I was promoted to Lead Graphic Designer. Responsible for maintaining our brands appearance within the catalog's pages, as well as Art Directing professional Illustrators in the creation of our illustrated catalog covers. Attended press-checks at Quad Graphics, Hartford Wisconsin to check catalog production as it rolled off the presses, and signing off on approvals for color. In 2000, Publisher's Toolbox went out of business. There was a recession at the time, and the software bubble had burst causing a reduction of revinue. The creative department was among the last to go in the summer of 2000, and I was let go with a generous severance package in August of 2000. Later hired back as a Freelance Graphic Design Consultant to create (solo) the final editions of Publisher's Toolbox catalog, to successfully reduce closing inventory of graphics software, and royalty-free stock images.
