I am an accomplished emergency management and business continuity leader with a rich background spanning over two decades. My healthcare expertise encompasses diverse settings, from rural Critical Access Hospitals to prestigious academic medical centers and regional healthcare systems. I collaborate with high performance stakeholders, including healthcare coalitions, educational institutions, private enterprises, non-profits, and governmental bodies.Leading interdisciplinary teams, I excel in optimizing system resilience through threat and hazard identification and mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. I lead successful teams as we assess, discover, build, improve, and sustain processes and programs. I am a strategic thinker and a technical operator.My contributions to the field have earned me widespread recognition as an industry leader, educator, and researcher. In 2009, I achieved the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation from the International Association of Emergency Managers. Additionally, I have been a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) since 2009. I was honored to serve as the ACHE Regent for Virginia's Central and Tidewater regions from 2020 to 2023.As a faculty member at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, I hold appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and Basic Sciences. I play a pivotal role as an Executive Committee member of the National Pediatric Disaster Coalition, contributing to its mission of enhancing pediatric disaster preparedness policy and response nationwide.My scholarly productivity, including numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and invited presentations, underscores my commitment to contributing to the science of resiliency and to building the next generation of leaders. I hold an MBA from James Madison University and a Master of Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and I completed my undergraduate studies at Bridgewater College.
