Work includes managing cement plant audits to optimise throughput and/or reduce production costs

Resident (Monitoring) engineer for the building and commissioning of new 5000tpd cement plant in Ethiopia. My duties included: • Management of a multi-national multi-discipline team of cement engineers monitoring construction quality and project progress.• Writing of weekly and monthly reports to the client’s senior management team in Lagos Nigeria.

Senior Process Consultant for a leading cement industry consultancy (CPI), the key work experiences I gained at CPI are:• Worked with clients, providing technical assistance and advice to optimise operations.• Carried out plant audits to provide data to improve performance and justify improvement projects. Recent plant audits have been undertaken in Turkey, U.S.A., Colombia, U.A.E. and Ireland.• Developed technical toolkits to assist clients in improving their performance and knowledge. • Developed client’s own personnel to ensure continuous improvement of clients operations including formal training courses. I have presented training courses in Colombia, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia & France. In the U.K., both formal training and individual mentoring has been given.• Construction of cement plant heat and mass balances for both wet and dry processes used as an instrument to reduce fuel consumption and increase throughput.• I was subcontracted to a client to act as lead process engineer in the design of a new 3000 tpd cement line.• I have been involved in the development of an e-learning certification course for Kiln operators. • I have gained commissioning experience on a number of sites, including the start-up of a plant uprating in Malaysia and a new vertical cement mill in Panama.

The key responsibilities of this role were to; • Prepare and follow-up on the monthly production budget plan (this included plant kpi’s)• Monitor and act upon the parameters relating to plant operation, with a primary focus on fuel and power consumption.• Inform and train operational staff and advise on plant operating techniques.• Ensure Compliance to environmental PPC/WID Permits (main contact for environmental department).• Be the site “expert” in process related issues and to ensure that the production teams were enabled to achieve targets.• Provide process engineering input to capital projects, working closely with the Project Team.
