International Process R&D TechnologistIedges Cdo Corporation 2014 - Oct 2017Cagayan De Oro, Philippines And Austin, TexasI founded IEDGES in the Philippines and through the course of events also created a wholly owned US subsidiary corporation, IEDGES INC. This was the brainchild of my Philippine endeavors and professional consulting activity.IEDGES supported biogas energy and organic fertilizer businesses in the Philippines providing plant design services and process support for agricultural and food manufacturers in Mindanao, Philippines. IEDGES also supported Solar Hybrid project development for SunEdison out of their Chennai, India offices. I did mostly pre-project feasibility with utilities, commercial entities, and the Philippine military. In the Philippines for SunEdison, my scope was limited to Hybrid projects focused mostly on hybrid solar+diesel applications. The corporate structure was set-up so that I could take on US contracts through the US subsidiary as well as Philippine contracts with domestic Philippine customers. Customers included Amley Foods - a fruit processing company with markets worldwide. Under this contract I designed, supervised construction, hired and trained personnel, and brought into manufacturing a waste processing facility that converted 40 tons per day of mango peels into electricity and organic fertilizer. We used the peels and wastewater to make the gas, and the seeds along with the digester residual to make the organic fertilizer.Other customers included starch plant, hog farm, banana plantation, and a chicken dressing plant.

Engineering ManagerSkyonic Corporation Jan 2016 - Oct 2016San Antonio, Texas AreaIn 2016, I was a Consultant acting as Engineering Manager for a Carbon Capture chemical plant in San Antonio. I was hired to find solutions to a myriad of plant commissioning problems. My responsibilities included all aspects of engineering, plant maintenance, and completing the robustness of the manufacturing process. Recommendations were made for the process improvement which included, among other things, significant upgrades and changing of some of the key process equipment. The plant produced 400 tons/day of sodium bicarbonate using CO2 from the flue gas of a neighboring cement plant (Capitol Aggregates). By the time I left, we knew precisely which equipment upgrades were needed as well as the costs and implementation schedule for the upgrades.

We relied solely on myself and 1 other expert biogas consultant in California for the project. -
Director Of Energy StorageSunedison Jan 2010 - Apr 2012My job was to go everywhere in the world that energy storage was discussed, manufactured, or utilized and define applications that connected to solar markets. This required gaining familiarity with energy storage regulatory status in the US and developing nations. During my tenure I became advisory board member of CESA (California Energy Storage Alliance), and ESW (Engineers for a Sustainable World).I reported into the Chennai, India office and was part of SunEdison's start-up crew that built the first grid connected 1 MWp solar power plant in the nation.I led project inception of a wide variety of experimental business models, one of which included electrification of completely isolated villages in Madhya Pradesh, bringing power to 100's of people and several schools that had never had electric power at all. These projects were very successful and are still prominent on SunEdison's web portal.I also led the technical team that began the solarization of the Narmada Canal in Gujarat, India and conducted solar hybrid feasibility studies in Sri Lanka (Milk Refrigeration), Bangladesh (Hospitals), and Thailand (BOI Fair). I also conducted paper studies for Maldives and Rwanda.I led a team of 4 pHD scientists in India (geology, chemistry, materials, business). -

Jun 1996 - Sep 2003Sunnyvale, CaI took over responsibility for the R&D facility and helped guide the company through a dramatic downsizing and sale of critical assets to ensure the company's survival.Initially taking over an engineering and production team and transition to 24x7x365 production schedule that reduced cycle time which significantly increased cycles of learning. It wasn't enough though and we had to close and sell-off the manufacturing fab along with the assets which included $27M of leased equipment. The sale of the fab cleared $10M which ensured the survival of the core microprocessor technology.Subsequent to the sale of the facility, I led a business unit (MaskTools) that commercialized a piece of patented IC design software. The unit was successful, garnering $1M in sales the first year and building a backlog of orders at a rate of $5M per year when we decided to sell the unit to a Dutch company ASM Lithography for $23M.
