The environment is built such that a single physical server is supporting multiple VMware ESXi instances running on Virtual Machines and employing VMware's DirectPath I/O configuration. The result is a configuration that serves as both a proof-of-concept and reference architecture for a cost savings configuration that will become increasingly common in the testing environment. The environment has been used as an education environment for Symmetrix Engineering teams to gain hands-on experience in a VMware environment. Configuration is extensible and able to support additional hypervisors and host operating platforms.
