General Manager Operations
Reporting to the business owner, I executed executive decision-making and oversight of the entire business operation, which involved the manufacture, distribution, and sale of 381 SKUs of candle products in four product categories. Sales channels: ~750 retailers, four distributors, and direct-to-consumer sales. I orchestrated demand planning with consideration of historical sales data, trending sales, product seasonality, and factory lead times. I also authorized raw materials purchasing in synchrony with production schedules. I regularly calculated manufacturing costs and collaborated with production managers for cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis. Additionally, I championed the move to contract manufacturing, closing existing factories and managing the reduction-in-force (separation agreements for union employees). I vetted overseas factories for quality and negotiated production costs. In addition to moving to contract manufacturing, I also transitioned the company to a contractual warehousing model (3PL).This outsourcing delivered a substantial improvement to bottom-line revenue. I was instrumental in spearheading all activity needed to establish a new product line/brand with manufacturing in China. I selected a freight forwarder for overseas container transport and last-mile logistics. This initiative delivered 30% higher margins than what existed previously. My role in the company also included oversight of the accounting/finance. I forecasted cash flow and cash requirements, analyzed sales patterns, margins, COGS, inventory turns, inventory value, and shipping costs. I continuously identified and executed opportunities to reduce costs. With regard to technology, I implemented a third-party dashboard software to Macola ERP, enabling extensive reporting-writing capability and business metrics in real time.I have led a workforce of more than 90 employees, hired staff, and managed a remote workforce.
