SCOPEInsight is an independent rating agency in which the core business is to facilitate access to agricultural finance in developing countries, and to contribute to food security and sustainability. SCOPEInsight does this by rating the risk assessment of the creditworthiness, sustainability and business potential of farmer organizations, and thereby making farmer organizations transparent for potential business partners. During my internship I was responsible for a project to enhance the existing rating methodology. I did this by charting contextual risks that farmer organizations face, specific to the country and region in which they operate. Constructing a quite pioneering commercial research with very limited scientific and macro comparative data was a huge challenge. My experience as a researcher who is able to find and interpret sources was a part of the success of the project. But also managing the cooperation with several experts in the field of agriculture was decisive. In the process of completing the project I was responsible for two Kenyan and one French intern. This responsibility gave me the opportunity to gain experience in managing problems within an international team.
