Process & Quality Manager
Responsible for all ore treatment processes (crushing, grinding, concentration, regrinding, filtration, mixing, agglomeration hardening, laboratories) spread over 2 sites (Mont-Wright concentrator and Port-Cartier pelletizing plant) producing concentrate of iron ore and iron oxide pellets, to the quality specifications required by our customers and to the level of productivity required to achieve the objectives.Responsible and accountable for the costs of additives and energy required for the various ore treatment processes. Head Of Process, Metallurgy & Research
Responsible of the metallurgical process of the Port-Cartier pellet plant, which produces 4 different types of iron ore pellets on 2 different production lines for a total of 10 million tons per year. On a daily-basis, monitor and control operational and metallurgical parameters to achieve productivity, quality and costs goals. The Port-Cartier pellet plant has a higher productivity and reliability than the benchmark and the high quality of its product is well known around the industry. The metallurgical process is divided in 2 main areas : preparation and induration. The pellet feed preparation area includes the concentrate upgrading plant by lowering silica concentration and the grinding with 6 opened or closed ball mills. The induration area includes the filters, the 10 pelletizing discs, the 2 roller screens and the 2 induration furnaces.Responsible for the management of 25 technical employees (engineers and technicians), in interacting with other pellet plant area managers (operation, maintenance and technical service) and with both internal (material handling, port) and external (steelmakers customers) clients. Responsible for the utilization of energy and raw materials additioned in the process and of a yearly budget of 4 million dollars. Participate in the strategic and budgetary plans and represent the pellet plant with upper management for results and forecast reviews. Responsible for research work by watching on technological developments, by proposing and documenting quality or productivity upgrading projects and by leading laboratory or industrial scale tests.
Area Manager - Railway Operations
Responsible for day-to-day operations of ArcelorMittal’s 260 miles long private rail line linking Mount Wright mining site to Port-Cartier harbor.This is a heavy-haul operation based on transportation of iron ore, refined or raw, wood, fret, including dangerous goods, and passengers with the use of 30 locomotives (GE, GM & EMD – AC 4400 HP) and almost 2000 rail cars.Insuring the increase hauling capacity from 24 to 27 million tons without the need of investment and with less manpower.Responsible for the management of 140 employees, of operational budget and of discussions with the union in a context of budgetary restraints and workforce reduction. Also responsible for a rail traffic control center, 10 front line supervisors, and the yards at Port Cartier, Fire Lake and Mount Wright. Successful implementation of LeaderCoach philosophy with the management and unionized employees.Focused on innovation and an active agent of change with the utilization of ECP brakes, extension of convoy from 160 to 210 railcars in a robust and safe manner and increasing the load per car from 263,000lbs to 286,000lbs (GRL) to minimize operational costs, development and implementation of an automatic monitoring tool for locomotive events recorder to track and improve train handling.
Mechanical Jr Engineer - Technical Service - Railway
In charge of multiple projects in support of the operations (repairs, maintenance, failure analysis), management and coordination of consultants and technicians, elaboration and management of capital investment projects (CAPEX) related to rolling stock (railcars and locomotives) and new railway technologies. Responsible for the implantation and support of the ArcelorMittal program for "work in heights" for the railroad sector, part of the health and safety initiative. Green Belt certified in the "Lean Six Sigma" methodology, implantation of the concepts of continuous improvement and of the global reliability on various fronts of ore cars and railway cycles optimisation.
