Dr. Romney Duffey is an internationally recognized scientist, consultant, executive manager, speaker, author and poet. He has written and published over 300 papers and articles and several books, and has extensive technical and professional contacts worldwide.Romney has over 30 years of unique experience in the USA, UK and Canada on nuclear technology development, risk assessment, industrial safety, nuclear system design, and accident analysis. . His recent technical contributions are on risk analysis, software reliability, and risk based predictions including learning models and methods; advanced reactor thermal hydraulics and design concepts; safety management and risk assessment principles; and managing and predicting rare events.After working with the US utility industry,and leadership roles in government laboratories and programs, and directing a not-for-profit Foundation, Romney was the Principal Scientist for AECL (Canada). Romney is a co-author of two original texts on errors in technology (“Know the Risk” and “Managing Risk”) dealing with the human influence, risk prediction and the discovery of the Universal Learning Curve, and the co-author of the first ASME text on supercritical heat transfer and fluid flow in engineering applications.His most recent work is the new "Dreams of Life", a major collection of poetry and life learnings. As President and Principal of DSM Associates Inc, Romney is presently advising and consulting on risk prediction for complex technologies, including on the nuclear energy impacts post-Fukushima; risk assessment for offshore oil and gas drilling; the future safety of commercial aircraft industries; and on advanced energy systems.
