I completed legal research, mostly consisting of housing issues, such as landlord/tenant. I have conducted research regarding modified mortgage agreements, specifically in cases in which a new mortgage servicer acquires the agreements. I have conducted research regarding the JPMorgan Chase settlement reached with the Department of Justice. And I have also conducted research and wrote a memorandum in regards to a private university's ability to suspend a student for public comments made on the radio in regards to the university.I also assisted in intake and assisting clients in making sure all the documents that we need are received. I also attended small claims court, in which my supervisors help individuals receive advice. And I have also attended settlement conferences.

I conducted research relating to HIPAA, the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, ERISA, the Red Flags Rule, etc. Once I completed the research or updated the research that was already contained, I wrote office memoranda regarding policy that should be implemented. This was sent around the entire office, to other departments as well. I performed research regarding hospital police departments and some of the issues other hospitals in other states had, by doing case law research. I then drafted a memoranda in regards to that. I reviewed contracts and assisted in the drafting of them, as well. These contracts ranged from contracts with a group of physicians to information technology to be implemented in the hospital. In regards to most of the contracts, I performed due diligence to ensure that the things contracted for were in existence. I assisted in a deposition, writing a summary of it afterwards. And I also attended meetings regarding policy review.

For the first two and a half months, I worked in Civil Court 10. I was able to observe several different court proceedings, relating to family law, property, and personal injury. I also performed legal research and drafted several memos. My final assignment was to draft a summary judgment order that the court was able to issue, with a few adjustments. The final two and a half months, I worked in Criminal Court 5 and I had the opportunity to observe criminal proceedings, such as initial hearings and a murder trial. I have also had the opportunity to look over probable cause affidavits, observe sentencing hearings, go over pre-sentencing investigation reports, and observe guilty pleas. I also preformed research on Indiana Appellate Rule 7.

I performed legal research and trial preparation. In a forgery and theft case, I performed research regarding electronic signatures in prosecuting the forgery charge. That research was used in trial, which assisted in a conviction. I also performed legal research regarding Indiana Rule of Evidence 403 and Indiana Rule of Evidence 404(b), which assisted in dismissing a case that did not appear to have much merit. I listened to jail phone calls that also assisted in bringing further charges against an individual who was committing fraud. I also gained courtroom experience, by being able to participate and observe regular courtroom proceedings.
