Profile bio

About Ron Eckert

I am a leader, technical writer, trainer, technician, veteran, and so much more. I had wanted to be a writer since I was in high school and a Soldier since elementary school. I was certain that journalism was the career of my future, potentially after a tour in the Army. I was studying journalism at the University of Maryland, when I changed my tune. After researching the median pay for a writer at the time, I realized that I would rather be getting paid enough to live comfortably. Being a rational young man, I decided to go into a career that paid even less. I became a career Soldier. After retiring from the Army, I took a contracted position that allowed me to write and develop training and allowed me to travel around the world to present the training to professionals from various government organizations. My search for the perfect career has taken me from the Poconos in PA, to Manhattan and Queens in NY, to Maryland, and presently to the Washington DC metro area. I have recently worked as a government contractor for the Department of State, developing technical manuals, or as I affectionately call them, “picture books for adults”. I was also a project manager for aftermarket vehicle technology integration for various government and security programs. I am currently a senior technical writer and editor at DTRA, where I work with highly skilled professionals, seeking to keep the USA and the world safe from weapons of mass destruction.I can successfully document, develop training, then deliver training for complex technologies and software platforms.- I can translate engineer speak into coherent and digestible information for end users and laypeople- I can quickly grasp and learn complex concepts- I am an accomplished technical writer and trainer- I am as comfortable talking to technicians as I am briefing executives I can successfully lead teams from 4 to 100 people. - I take responsibility and ownership for any product my team delivers- I take pride in facilitating the professional and personal growth of my team members- When I am in charge, I take chargeI am dedicated to personal and a professional education and growth- I maintain my composure when faced with adversity - I always look for education opportunities- I seek mentorship opportunities and welcome input from other mentorsI am always looking to expand my network. Connect with me if you want to chat about anything ranging from technical writing best practices to, working as a contractor, to the Washington Capitals' chances at winning another Stanley Cup Championship.
